At No. 31 Burivanich Road in Satun's old town, we make roti that is crisp outside, soft inside and never greasy, with our own bean curry, packed mataba and hot goat-milk tea from early morning.
Satun has long started its day with roti and tea. Our small shop sits on Burivanich Road among the old town's Sino-Portuguese shophouses; Thairath Online called us a Satun breakfast legend of more than 40 years.
The shop is run by Pa Daeng, who says the roti must be crisp outside, soft inside and never greasy, rolled and fried fresh for each order. Her bean curry recipe is her own.
The half-brick, half-timber room works like a morning coffee club for regulars. Try the goat-milk tea, rich and fragrant, or strong pakee tea with a plate of mataba.
